ABOUT MTCP SCHOLARSHIP

Funded by the Malaysian government, the MTCP Scholarship is designed for international students from developing countries aiming to pursue postgraduate studies in Malaysia. This scholarship, which spans 24 to 36 months for a Master's Degree Program, is intended to equip recipients with the knowledge and skills to benefit their home countries. Applications are open from June 14, 2024, to July 14, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Open to international students from MTCP recipient countries.

Applicants must be no older than 45 years on the application date. 

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

  • Applicants should have at least a Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.50 in their undergraduate degree.
  • For English language proficiency, you need:
  • An IELTS overall score of 6.0 or higher, or
  • A TOEFL iBT score of 60 or higher, or
  • Proof of having completed a degree where English was the medium of instruction.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

This scholarship covers tuition fees and provides additional allowances totalling RM3,500 per month.

GUIDELINES FOR THE MALAYSIAN TECHNICAL COOPERATION PROGRAMME (MTCP) SCHOLARSHIP 2024

General Information:

  • Application Period: June 14, 2024, to July 14, 2024.
  • How to Apply: Applications can be submitted through the MTCP website at MTCP Scholarship.
  • Eligibility: Available for full-time Master’s Degree programs for the 2024/2025 academic year.
  • Target Group: Outstanding graduates from MTCP recipient countries listed in Annex I.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
  • Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • At most 45 years old at the time of application.
  • A minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5 or equivalent in their undergraduate degree.

Proof of English Language Proficiency:

A scanned copy of IELTS (minimum score of 6) or TOEFL iBT (minimum score of 60).

Alternatively, a letter from a previous institution stating English as the medium of instruction.

Excellent health, certified by a doctor. The cost of the medical check-up is borne by the applicant. The medical report form is available on the MTCP scholarship website.

Application Process:

Applicants must register and apply at MTCP Scholarship Registration.

The registration system will be used throughout the application and selection process. Applicants may need to log in at different stages to check the status of their application or provide additional documents.

  • Required documents (scanned and saved in PDF format) to complete the application:
  • Certified copy of the passport (valid for at least 12 months).
  • Certified copy of the academic transcript, reflecting all courses taken during the degree program.
  • Certified copy of English language proficiency test (TOEFL/IELTS/PTE/CAE/CPE/MUET) or a letter from the previous institution stating English was the medium of instruction.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Medical examination report (download from the MTCP website).
  • Letters of recommendation from two referees (forms available on the MTCP website).
  • Latest admission offer letter from Malaysian universities for the 2024 intake (if applicable). The list of supported universities is in Annex II.

MTCP Scholarship Benefits:

Tuition Fees: Paid directly to the university for the entire duration of the scholarship.

Monthly Allowance: RM3,500 per month, paid directly to the recipient's Malaysian bank account.

Airfare: One-time return economy class ticket from the student's nearest international airport to Malaysia and back to their home country.

Areas of Study:

Priority is given to the following fields:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (excluding nursing, medicine, and clinical pharmacy).

Other fields include:

  • Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.
  • Economics and Finance.
  • Education.
  • Environment.
  • International Relations and Political Science.
  • Social Science and Humanities.

Selection Criteria:

Applications are evaluated based on:

  • High academic and extracurricular achievements.
  • Strong communication, writing, and reading skills in English.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Full-time Enrollment: Recipients must be enrolled full-time in a Master's Degree program in Malaysia.
  • Program Changes: No program changes are allowed without written permission from the university and MTCP Secretariat.
  • Compliance: Recipients must meet program requirements and abide by Malaysian laws and university regulations.
  • Suspension: Any suspension from the university results in immediate suspension of the scholarship. Monthly allowances are not paid during suspension.
  • Visa Requirements: Recipients must apply for and meet entry visa requirements, including a medical examination. Visa application costs are borne by recipients. More details are at Education Malaysia Visa.
  • Academic Progress: Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress and good standing. Failure to do so will result in scholarship withdrawal.

  • Location: Scholarships are valid only at Malaysian universities, and studies must be conducted in Malaysia.
  • Employment: Recipients are prohibited from paid employment during their scholarship tenure without written approval from the host university and MTCP Secretariat.
